Good day guys and girls. I am exited to say I am starting to get prices for the tank I am goin to build. The dimentions will be 2m long by 1m and then 60cm deep. That gives me a nice 1200L tank and the sump will be in the region of about 600L. I will post pic as soon as I start the buils. Canot wait to start.

Sounds good Nico. Check with Preshan, he has a 2m*1m*700H built with 12mm glass. I think it cost him in the region of R9000.00

    I will definately do so.
I do not know how he did it for that price, the glass for the tank alone will cost in the region of abou R5500.
That exclude the metal stand and any equipment.

Hi guys out of interest spoke to a few buddies of mine the glass business - firstly get ready to fork out labour money for about 15-20 people to pick that size of glass then lets not even go with the weight factor if one had to put it in courier company that is willing to take the risk of transporting it! Our glass shops here say its cheaper for them to drive 400kms to pick up speacial orders as the packaging works out usually more than the glass if want to have it couriered to them and some transport companies make you sign imdemnity forms if the glass breaks - tough luck for you - not their problem! But check what he is looking for the whole lot of glass - if one can arrange transport it - definately would be an awesome supersize!

The price for 15mm glass is radiculous, the quate I got was R21000.
    What a shoker.
That is the reason I am using 12mm with enough suport struts.

ya just thought it was worth a mention. id love to have bought it but it looks like we will be cutting it up to make smaller tanks of a rimless nature.. just for interests sake the biggest tank i have built was 2.5 x 1m x .700 it had a slight bow so i think the .600 height and the use of 12mm will definatley allow you to sleep easier at night.

Cutting it up? How do your'll plan on doing that? To the best of my knowledge its impossible on 19mm glass! If possible let me know as I have tons of glass that guys dont want but can do nothing with it because we were told we cant cut it to our suitable sizes

Cool let me know how it goes maybe worth a trip to EL to get this done as really alot of glass "lying" around with nothing to do coz no one here can cut it! I have armourplated shop front windows 2.8mx1m plz check if anything can be done with that as also "sitting" with it but too big to work with just like that - Thanx Les - Also has anyone used armour plated glass for tanks-this is 6mm thick but if I use it like that should be holding about 2500 litres of water - don't think it can take that kind of pressure!

not to go on too much of a thread steel here but toughened and armour plate glass cannot be cut due to the toughening process (the glass is baked in an oven) it will merley break. the glass my mate has in normal 19mm float glass. the worry is that it cut in CT shipped here and now he doesnt want to go that big anymore .

I wont use 6mm glass on a tank the size that hold 2500l.
I used 5mm on my 200l starter kit with support struts that I am currently selling.
I build it as a hobby and I am actualy sorry to sell it becouse of the beauty of it but I need the funding for my suppersize tank.
