Hi guys. I have bought a 5000L sun sun pump for my 400L malawi tank. It works like a charm with a nice wide water stream. It only 2 weeks old. It fell once. How do you guys use these pumps to get the best flow? Is it advisable to move the pump around once it's stuck with the suction cups? Does moving the pump around cause it to fall?
At the moment I have the pump angled about 35 deg to the front glass from right of the tank & about 10cm below the water level.

    Thanks in advance.

My rule of thumb is the following - suction cups suck !

How much is the magnet mounts? I'm so tempted to change to marine but the costs is what is putting me down.

How do these pumps react to being switched on and off?

was thinking in the line of 30min intervals?

my brother in law bought some of these still bragged about the price vs a tunze set.. well his pumps shafts erroded in less than 1 year and needless to say my tunzes are still running :)

look for a flow pump with a ceramic shaft.. it will last you 10 times longer...

I agree Leslie, but at the price of Sun-sun's against Tunze, we can replace the Sun-sun once a year and still have some change against a tunze equivalent... ;)

they dont take well to being switched on and off. They often make a terrible noise on start up and require being turned off to fix it. I have seen some pumps reverse direction when being turned on. Then theres also the problem with the shaft snapping. For the price they are good (mine have been problem free in my system), but if you want alrenating pumps rahter go for something else. Look into Boyu wavemaker or the Seios.

Hi All, I have been working with them since AKWA started importing them, They are cheep yes u need to buy the magnets !! We found that they actually last just as long on a timer (3hours on/off) as they do just on on. Once the pump starts running in reverse it's time for a new pump. I will speek to akwa and see if we can get some ceramic shafts made up for them? Hope this helps~!

I was asking because I'll be saving up for 2x vortex 40's but that's 8 grand, so wanted to use this in the meantime.

I know they aren't that great when turning on and off but I thought using 30min intervals vs a few seconds might still be possible.

    :(

they boyu WM-3 set I believe isn't that bad but the pumps are pretty weak imo.

i have had a few of these and they are good but sometimes you get one that doesnt start straight away when you turnit on, or you get one that turns the wrong way.

There are some new mini polarios that alternate the current but only do 4-5000 litres. They are also reasonably priced.

@KATHIE, your pumps fall off because your glass is dirty or the suckers are dirty. CLean the glass where you want to attach the pump and clean the three suckers as they get slimy inside sometimes. I battle to get mine off and the suckers come off the mount from the force I need to loosen them

Mine worked fine until I put it on a AM wave, the consistent off and on isn't a good thing for these pumps....
