Hi there Dumbo - Welcome to MASA - Most of the guys will say that coz size proportions dont make sense with a sunken ship in a marine tank! It just does not look natural - That is the main reason - In comparison to the fish size the ship is too small!

Cause it does not look natural, although some mods said that it might be something different as to the normal reeftanks, baring in mind that it has to be in perspective.
But there is nothing wrong with it, just make sure there are no metals in the ship

I recall Franssny wanted to do a sunken ship feel with wood (I think) to make it more natural. These platicky things are not natural

Plastic does corrode in salt water, and is very prone to UV degradation, if you are going to put this in, make sure it has a "UV resistant" label

Just remove all the bodies from the crew that drowned - might cause an ammonia spike...lol

Dumbo, its purely personal preference with the sunken ship. The majority opt for a natural reef look. As the others said, its not in proportion to actual fish. If it were a coral only tank then it may be a lovely feature once populated by coralline and some GSP with an array of SPS and softies. Not very many people have Coral only Tanks, maybe something you could try, and remember POST PICS.

dumbo...thats a big ship ! Not impossible to do but as everyone said proportions are tricky. Just remember it would look weird if a mushroom was bigger than the portside hatch....unless you are planning on shotting Alien 20 or something.

Spot on Marc...still toying with the idea but put it at the back of the list due to the move etc

I have personally seen someone with a sunken ship in he's system, and must add that it didn't look that bad at all. You are quite correct in that the caroline algea, pods, small tube worms will take it over and does give it that dark scary look!! I personally just wanted a more natural look and sold my ship wreck. Most of these ship wrecks are UV resistant made of high quality plastic. But it really boils down to what you want..

PS: I think I should have kept my ship wreck. It would have made a nice base to stack my live rock over. Thus creating caves under the rocks for the fish to swim though!!;)

I think that could be fun make a mini city under water!

the issue is the size of the fish vs the stuff put in

Also if you use the sunken ship ornament in your system you lose space for live rock and this will impact on your filtration. If you want to use it you will need to compensate with a bigger sump for example. My 2c but if you like go for it, it's your setup.
