    So....stupid question but why is it called a Sun Coral when it only opens up at night?

    Common names are silly, The scientific name is Tubastrea aurea. Which in Latin means tube ear and star. Aurea means "golden" or star like. Au is the table of elements sign for Gold.
    Hope it makes sense now.
