Hi can someone help me with some specs on a sump for a 300 liter tank. I would like to make it on my own. What is your advise? Please I'm a bit stuck. Have spoken to a few people but still don't no what size sump I need for my tank. Having second thoughts on this hobby. Good advise is so hard to get.

    Hi Mark

it largley depends on what you are going to be keeping...

I personally like an emtyish sump housing only: filter sock (optional), Skimmer, heater, Return pump and a resiviour to house RO water to top up with an ATU...

    others prefer DSB etc etc..

if you look at DSB route you should go as large as possible or try and plumb a remote DSB if at all possible...

perhaps give us more info on your intended systems inhabitants and we can take it from there...

    Hi Lesile

I have just started this aquarium. I have no idea on what is my next step. Right now I just want to get everything right. I would like to keep some coral and some small fish like clown fish and maybe some shrimp. Nothing big. What I have done is put in the right amount of salt ,Two power heads , some live rock got the T5 light. That is about it.
    No protein skimmer.

    Just some questions:

What are the dimensions of your tank?
Does it have an overflow yet? You need an overflow where the water will run off into the sump.

Protein skimmer is very important, you will find good threads on MASA on skimmers, have a look at them.

Generally the sump will sit under your tank, so I would suggest building it as big as possible to still fit underneath your stand.

The compartments inside the sump will depend on your filtration method i.e Deep Sand Bed, Bio Pellet route, only live roock etc.
