lol, I did, but I got a decent skimmer from my LFS now, and I basically have to fit the sump around the skimmer, and now also I don't have much room down below, was just thinking going from skimmer, through LR with macro, and then return. Not much room, I am limited at height to 35 cm's max, and remember the builders can't go longer than 1.2m, and width I am going 430mm. I also want room for two reactors

What I would do is, first chamber overflow from tank and skimmer, second chamber LR and macro algae and third chamber, reactors and return pump.

Meks, is what I really want is
    1) easy to maintain, get the skimmer out etc, easy to access reactors (phos and carbon)
    2) holds water volumun,
    3) I only want LR in there, and macro algea, this local stuff I got doing well, and cheato.
4)Large ish return chamber, cause I op up manually, and it is a ball ache

Maybe if I want to try a small 5L bucket of mangrove mud, then I can get it out if I want.
Simple, effective, and EASY!!!! Will let the skimmer do the rest.

Hows this. I would use this but create some flow amongst the LR and Macro Algae in order prevent detritus settlement.
