Sump Offline - How Long?

This morning I discovered that my floor was flooded, I have manage to conclude that the problem is the sump, I think I might have a crack under the DSB. How long can I run the tank with out the sump, which contains the skimmer and DSB? I have taken the sump off line and added a air pump to the display, and will do a 15% water change tomorrow. A related question is a new sump design, check out my proposal and please comment.

Can you fit the skimmer onto/into the display for a few days?

My temporary solution, emergency/mini sump. Always wondered why I bought that tank.
