Hi Guys,
I’m finally getting to upgrade. With that comes a bigger sump so I can finally have space to try a refugium.
My new sump isn’t in my mind set up nicely for it though. The design seems more for mechanical filtration. Have a look at my drawings
As is - how I understand the sump to be set up.
I think it should have an additional baffle so I can have the second compartment for a refugium, bottom drawing.
Another solution would be just to put the filter material vertical so create a separation from the skimmer and the refugium. Middle drawing.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

I’d go for the last one. You can always add filter media between the 2 baffles later, but I found I forget to clean filter media and it becomes a nitrate factory. Another option is to design so you can put a filter sock or filter roller to the far left, should provide the mechanical filtration and stop a lot of detritus from getting into sump.
