Suggestions on LED lighting

Hey all

I have just upgraded my tank to a 1000 x 1000 x 600 cube. Hopefully will be getting my tank next week.

Currently I have a 1.2m tank and am running a Maxpect razor 420r 160w with the lens upgrades.

Do you think this light, with the lens upgrade, will be sufficient on my cube ?

Otherwise please recommend reasonably priced alternatives and models.

Alone it wont be enough you will need another one. Look at the zetlights. They are taking over and have heard great things

i have a cube 1mx1mx500 and its a mission to light properly and still look neat , have a look at the a350w kessil seen some available second hand at really good prices , what are you planning on keeping ? two kessils would work a treat

Try removing the lens completely on your razor and suspend it. I have a 300w razor suspended over my 1.8m with no lens and its excellent

The higher you lift it the more area it covers. But it also has to pernetrate further and deeper before it gets to the corals. The deeper you go the more par you will lose.

The lenses also focus the LEDs more, increasing par and penetration. By removing the lense the light isn't as focused, resulting in lower par.

Ok. Thought u have one of these units and might have tested it with and without optics. Lots of stuff on paper is not the same as the real deal. I got better results with my sps with no optics but thats my light and my tank. Thanks for your input anyway.

no not unless you just build a centre pinnacle and don't mind darker edges, one would work on 900x900x400 but it just wasn't enough for 1mx1mx500, where is your over flow box situated ?

depending on your scaping, you can get away with your current light unit. Edges would be dark, advantage would be less growth on the tank sides.

Why does nobody suggest pharos, im pretty sure the 130w would do a decent job.

I use the smaller light, combined with controller it really is a fantastic unit.

tested my razor tonight (with upgraded lenses). As you can see the unit was placed straight on the tank and was not elevated. What you guys think?

That seems to be lighting the whole area up but I think you will get the full effect once you have transferred all your livestock into the tank.
