    Hello Fellow Reefers...

ok so i have a Boyu running for a few months now, its doing well,
water paramaters and all that have stabled out nicely,

    i have at the moment

Red Sea Reef Base, Ocean White,

but it is SOOO fine, and i find that if i just move a wave maker, i get substrate all over everything,

    i want to know,
is there a good substrate out there, that is not as fine.

also is it a HUGE mission and shock to the tank to change the substrate??

We find Caribsea SeaFloor Special grade to be really good, this is what we recommend to our customers. We also have used washed 10kgs for only R250

Hey i had a look at your tank and it looks great , , you will have to just watch the "Reef lobster "
It may be reef safe , but not always fish safe...

To get the sea floor special grade in , which is nice and heavy , without stripping the tank , you can uses a 1.5 meter 25 - 30mm diameter hose and syphone the fine arraganite out into a bucket keep about 5 cm of the old around the rocks or your reef could collapse, rince the new out very well and put into the tank.
Over time the fine will settle down and the course will work its way around the rocks , you can help that by moving the two around when doing water changes.

    Good luck

I have heard that those spiny lobsters can be a nuisance to fish,
But my one is probably the smallest one ive ever seen,
    He is tiny!
And i do feed alot of frozen foods, and meaty flakes and pellets! And he seems to be ok with that!
He comes put grabs a pellet and sucks back into his hole!
So maybe i am one of the lucky ones for now with a small pellet eating spiny lobster..

He has been in there for ages, and nothing seems to have changed, and as soon as it does he will go,
I had a turbo snail die, and ge got there before the hermit crab did,
    I hope he doesnt change
