Stupid SEIO's

    I've had two SEIO prop 320's in my nano for about 6 months now. Recently algae started growing on the glass, a bit more than usual. So tonight I checked my pumps and the two SEIO were running in reverse. So sucking in water instead of pushing it out. So I cleaned them and then started them up again and all was perfect. 5 mins later I checked them again and they were going in reverse again. Took them apart and everything seems perfect and all is clean but everytime I turn them on they go into reverse after about 5 mins. I've got a SEIO prop 530 on the same multiplug and that one works perfectly so it isn't an electrical problem. Anyone got any ideas...

    I've got 4...1100's and never experience that yet...i have my seois for 2 years now...and the only problem i had is the ceramic shaft which i replaced today...sorry bud cannot help you...

    Turn them around ;)

    Never had it happen on seio's, only had them "freeze" a lot. Have a sunsun that likes to go in reverse sometimes but it still provides decent flow so not really worried.

    Are they magnetic or suction cups - the reason I ask is coz I got 5 x M1500 (2 more on their way this week) and 4 x M1100 - only my 1 M1100 with a magnetic holder does this now and then - the others work 100% - so I'm thinking it has to do with the magnet - want to put the suction cups on that "troublesome" one and see if it makes a difference

    I got about 6 months use out of mine before it went into the garbage. It kept shutting off. I took it apart several times to clean with no luck.

    I use maxi jets. I don't use power heads with anemones. They are great for corals, but I keep anemones with all of my corals now. I use the maxi jets for mixing salt water and in sumps in the seahorse tanks. So, I'm not really looking for a lot of flow when using the maxi jets, although I wouldn't hesitate with coral.     My anemone/coral tanks are ran by mag pumps from the sump.

    So I seem to have fixed the one seio, I removed the cover and it seems to be working but the other one is still playing games with me. Everytime I leave it unattended it changes direction. Just a quick question, how tight should I tighten that ring that holds the shaft in place?

    Two of my Seio 530 props also do something simular. Sometimes it will make a 'cluck cluck' sound continuosly while shaking.

    Like if the polarity reverses on the magnet inside or something.

    Sometimes I squirt a bit of air in the openings with my turkey baster and it comes right - other times I unplug them and leave for 30min and then all fine again.

    i've never had seios reversing but that noise is really horrible!!

    I must say maxi jets for me have been the most indestructible pumps... That and my old oceanrunner although I admittedly didn't have it for long enough to really test durability.
