There is a distinctive and unusual looking fairy wrasse lurking around Alor in the Lesser Sunda Islands of Indonesia. The unusual wrasse is most likely an undescribed species of Cirrhilabrus which has a dorsal fin that is unlike any other known fairy wrasse species. The characteristic of this funky dorsal fin led it’s discoveres to calling it the “Stubby Wrasse”. Ned DeLoach and members of a Dive trip to this far Eastern reach of Indonesia first spotted the Stubby Fairy Wrasse in May of 2010 and we presume that collection of type specimens will be needed before an official description of the Stubby Cirrhilabrus can begin.
