What is gthe correct way to stick rocks together with pratley.

I havent got any coral on my lr. Must you take the rock out of the water, stick the 2 rocks together and wait for it to dry before putting it back in the water or do you just put it in the dt after a little while. ?

Charl , you can do it in the tank , thus underwater.

Just switch off your powerhead for 10 to 15 mins

Use Pratley's standard setting putty, and just stick them together under water :) It will set rock hard in 24 hours. You could stick the rocks together out of the water, but then there is the risk of the rocks drying out (thus killing the expensive "life" you purchased with the rock, and, of course, the added risk of dropping the rocks when you try to put them back into the tank (much heavier once they are all stuck together...).

As an alternative to sticking them together, you could drill small holes through the rock (whilst ensuring that they remain damp) and then tie them together with cable ties. this works very well, and allows one the option to disassemble the rockwork whenever needed in the future.

I have tried a few times underwater. Mostly to attach hard shelled corals to a rock. 3 weeks later and its still like mush (and I did mix it properly...) So now, I remove from tank, place the 2 parts premixed in the microwave for 10 seconds and attach. 1 minute later its in the tank...

If you do it outside of the tank you can have a good look at it before you put it back. Ill do it inside the tank when the rocks are large or with coral on them. Thanks for the advice. Will upload pics as soon as the rocks are all in place and I added my first corals.

Very strange. Just to be sure, you did use the proper Pratleys STANDARD setting white putty? Their quick-set putties are not as strong when setting under water (although they do set under water in less than an hour, IME).
