I am currently getting a new tank built. Here is a rough paint drawing of it.
More info later. I wanna go home and:1:
If anything looks like it might cause problems let me know. Thanks.

Hi Steve - looks good so far. Perhaps you can elaborate on why you are not designing a seperate sump for this tank?

I think it might be the same principle as a boyu nano type tank with the fitration at the back. He will have a small DSB and better skimmer though. But the DSB might be too small to really be affective. Maybe look at holding macro algae at the back or even some extra LR?

The tank will be sitting on a cabinet in our spare room. There is no space for a sump. It will be next to my ps3 and 1080P Samsung monitor. Yeah baby.

Tobes is absolutely spot on. I got the idea from the boyu TL range. I dont like how high they are in relation to length. So i'm having my own made.

Sounds good then Steve...... And PLEASE PLEASE remember - salt water and electronics don't work very well together (that's why I have my Plasma on the wall - as you know! ;))

Tobes i hear what you're saying. I might use the dsb section for a couple of small pieces of LR. The skimmer had to be lifted that high which left me with a compartment and i straight away thought dsb. Just worked it out and its a little less than 20 percent of the DT. Not enough for a dsb. Thanks for the heads up.

    Looks quite cool.

Just bear in mind that if you have a surround sound (which Im guessing you do seeing as you already have an awesome gaming setup {YES, im a massive PS3 fan :D }) The vibrations coming from the sound system will scare your fish/invertebrates, and they will most likely end up in hiding the whole time :(

The "sump" area will be painted black with velvaglo as i'm told it is the best water resistant paint. The glass panel dividing the tank and sump will have a thin black vinyl layer siliconed to it so you cant see the sump through the tank. To top it all off the tank is being built with black silicone and all edges have been polished to give it that kick ass finish.

Poiromaniax, i have a set of Behringer studio monitor speakers. Not incredibly loud but super clear and connected via optical cable. Will be sure to never really crank it too high. Dont wanna scare my fishies.

Poiromaniax - you should hear my sound system ;)

I have a 120 watt active woofer, and 112 watt of actually measured per channel - of AV - and I USE it! ;) (I have a Yamaha DSP-A1 Amplifier - and I love my Dolby Digital and DTS movies).......

My fish never died because of it.

[EDIT][JB] BTW: My 2 metre tank is in my living room - where I watch my movies! ;) (and my wife listens to her music - at full blast! ;))

Jacques, won't the bass vibrations mess with the tank seals?

Sorry, this design is not for me. I doubt if the flow will be any good. Nice big dead spots on the right.

pump will suck water from shortest path, that just exited the skimmer.

To have two chambers either end will just be so stupid, being such a short sump.
Only option is either two square boxes on opposite ends. Just big enough to house the skimmer in one and the return in the other. Or a triangular corner, again just big enough for the skimmer and return pump.

So what you're saying is the increadibly popular Boyu designed tank isn't any good? Before the pump returns the water to the display it will pass through the middle little chamber which will have something like chemipure elite and carbon.

So first into chamber with LR and TS1 then to the chemical filtration chamber then to the return. Having only one chamber will just not work for me.

    Yes,
My current DSB is a normal 60L tank. Daro special available at all normal pet shops.

Inlet pipe goes into a plastic milk bottle in the back left corner. Just cut off, slighty higher than the sand itself. And right back corner I got another milk bottle with my syphon outlet pipe stuck into that.

Then I got a nice big cheato ball,
And both front corners and both sides from milk bottle to front tend to dirty up with settlement. And the Cheato ball should distribute the flow even more. But obviously along both my left and right there is no flow.

So in your "U" design I believe the same will happen, but on 3 sides where I only got two sides an issue. You will need something that will force the water to take the long route.

I'm not following you. Is it explained with pics in your tank thread so I can go check it out?

I didnt say they would die, they will most likely hide alot.

I have my tank next to my room (With a full BOSE system) and if i crank it up, my fish start going crazy - bolting to their hiding spots if there is a big explosion in the movie/game
