    Hi,

I am very new to this. Been looking at custom and some other tank options recently. Can now get a brand new Red Sea Max 250 for R19000. Is this a good way to start, or is it really not that great to buy such a plug and play tank?

Does anyone also know if the 250 is to be discontinued? Hence, replaced with the 250C?

Hope I can get some advice here.

    Thanks & Regards

    Werner

Hey Werner. Ill rather maybe start with something cheaper and see if this hobby is for you. They are great plug and play systems but are expensive. Look in the for sale section there are very nice tanks for a lot less. Ask away your questions and we will help anytime

That is a very cheap price for a RSM250. I have one and love it to bits and the best plug and play on the market IMO. For a beginner tank it is great because you do not need to upgrade anything immediately (even the lights are sps ready). I found with mine that, apart from removing the black sponges, I have not upgraded or removed any of the standard equipment that came with the tank.

With regards to the new model, the new design will replace the existing tank. The new model has a better setup for filtration, comes with a media rack, the curved glass is removed. It will be more expensive than the current model out though (not sure by how much though). Will see if I can find the filtration setup of the new model for you. :)

I have an RSM 250 and love it. How much you will modify it is up to you. If I have the same money today I would buy everything seperate but back when I bought it I didn't know what I needed or what to buy so I'm happy with my original purchase. There is currently an RSM 250 for sale with chiller and LED upgrade and original t5 lighting for R10000. That is an absolute steal if you are leaning towards Red Sea.

Disclaimer: I do not know the person selling that tank or have any invested interest in the sale.
