    Welcome to MASA!

no such thing as a starter tank!
i would try pick up a well built custom tank. there are plenty of them that come up.
custom tanks tend to be better thought out and ensure you can buy lasting quality equipment!
they also cater for you to upgrade to better equipment when you can afford it

Read lots, then read more! look at members setups and get familiar with the lingo and different filtration methods

i've been doing this for 7 years now and i am still learning!

    Seen a Boyu TL-550 going for R1200
And others in that range up R2000

Price as low as possible as I'm only getting started.

I was going to offer you my first tank, which @Furbz wisely stated, was a custom tank with everything included.

Mine was a 65 x 65 x 50 cm rimless star fire cube, with overflow, sump, return, skimmer, lights etc. basically everything I needed. It costs more but it is flexible and you will not regret it as when you advance you can change your tank to suit your new abilities.

My opion and from what ive seen the tl550 is a very nice starter tank. You will eventually want a bigger tank but they very nice neat looking and eventually everyone ends up with more than one tank

Have you got pics and price. I'm open to ideas and offers.
In saying that I do like the size of Boyu mentioned. Not to small not to big

Pic you can look at my thread below each of my posts called, "My Cube"

The package I will offer you will include the following:
1x Tank (65x65x50 cm tank, rimless in star fire glass, with skinny overflow and bottom drain)
1x stand for the tank(not 100% sure on the height but it should be in my thread)
1x sump ( will include all the plumbing etc.)
1x JNS SK-2 Skimmer( excellent but I did have a few problems in the beginning which were all sorted out.)
1x 400o lph return pump( again with all the plumbing)
1x Ecotech marine radion LED lighting( provide flexibility and high performance as your can keep any coral under this light)
1x JNS media rector( not needed but as you advance they become helpful)

The only thing that you would have to get equipment wise is in tank flow.

All this that I have listed is probably, at current prices, worth over R16000.

MY price would be R10 000

    Welcome MADMATT!!!!!!!!!!

I thought starting off cheap would be easy... Turned out to be even harder and more expensive in the end(Well, for me). There's always something else you need :p

Boyu's and Jbj's are quite nice, they have a little "sump" at the back, which is nice if you don't have a lot of space...You get good ones secondhand. and they have the lights and pumps included. You still need to get a skimmer though, and its gonna have to be HOB or small enough to fit in the back, unless you're planning on running a sump separately...

PS: Luckily there are great people on this forum, and there's always equipment on sale for great prices. Just be patient and ask around :)

    Hi bud.
    Thanx.
I'd really like it as a complete unit.boyu 550 is the kind of size I've always wanted.
    Keep everything 2gether.
But I'd really want a good deal.
The one I refer to earlier is from a guy in Cape Town. I'm in JHB. Great deal wrong city.
Ill hang in there and hopefully the deal of a life time comes my way.

    welcome to masa

I suggest you save up and do more background work than just buying the boyu.

the size is great but the skimmer that it come with is horrible. guys end up replacing the skimmer with 1 that costs the same price as what they bought the tank for. also you will end up replacing the lights on it to leds if u want to keep better corals.

    what is your budget?
