    Hi guys & girls!!!
Im currently in the planning stages for a species tank (surprise till later) but im really struggling to get a supplier for starfire glass & was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction?
The tank is going to be a 75l cube tank with oversized skimmer (hob) & mechanical filtration. 150w mh lighting & one eco vortech mp10 for flow.
Tank will be run on orca bio-cubes & phosphaguard for Low nutrients.
Dosing 3 part calcium, mg & alk.
    15l waterchange weekly.

This is only a rough idea of the tank... Will do a decent tank thread when i get the glass!

Please send me a pm if you know where i can find starfire glass!
    Thanks guys!!!

No need to PM. The low iron glass supplier is Rene Turck.

Low iron glass only starts to benefit from 8mm up IMHO. What are your tank dimensions. Seemed to miss them in you post/sketch.

    Thanks NJ.
    The tank is 500x500mm & 360mm high
Glass thickness is 12mm bottom & 10mm side glass.
I know the glass thickness is a bit oversized (there's a method in my madness, lol)

    Thanks for the information NJ.
Just a quick question... Are there any special ways for glueing low iron glass or can i use the normal den braven black silicone?

Thanks @jacquesdp08, i was at jungle aquatics on friday. I saw the tanks you're talking about. Stunning little tanks, but it wont work for my idea. My skimmer wont fit & i already have a stand to fit my tank size...
But thanks for the info jacques!!!

IMO 10mm normal glass bottom and 6mm sides is way adiquite for that size tank. You are building fort knox to keep a mouse. Just my opinion.

Normal DB marine black silicone is the best, IMO

Lol, fort knox... I agree, will explain fully in the tank thread.
Thanks for your knowledge NJ, i agree & with your advice in mind, i think i should downscale the glass thickness a bit to 8mm for the sides...
    Thanks again!

Hehe, same here!!! I saw my first mantis shrimp at sodwana bay on a deep dive while i was looking for a ribbon eel to photograph.
He was in a tiny hole & kept going in & out of there. I stuck my camera right into the hole to try to get a pic (didnt know about the hammers on the little shrimp back then, lol) good thing he was friendly:blush:
Since then i was hooked on the idea of a mantis shrimp tank.
Im going to start cycling the tank december & hopefully get my hands on a mantis when i get back in january...

You should talk to @LikesFish , he had a mantis and has a thread or blog somewhere. Maybe he will chime in and give some advice and a pointer.

    I found the thread...
Wow, thats was a nice mantis shrimp!!!
    Shame he didnt make it!
@LikesFish, can you perhaps explain a bit about the care needed for these nice critters!!!
Unfortunately there isnt much info on their care... Only how to catch them...
What thickness glass is required for a fully grown specimen?

    Thanks

I rather increase the tank that little bit to 600mm. Then you can fit standard T5 lights.

Dorry Pets do make little nano tanks from starfire glass. But you only get the benefit from 10mm or thicker glass. Although, the tanks do look nice with the clear edge.

I have a spare 150w mh nano tank unit im not using & also a 60cm t5 unit so i'm still a bit in 2 minds about the tank size!
I will have to pop in to dorrys to see what they can offer me!
    Thanks for the idea!

I decided to build this tank myself as a DIY project.
Im looking for the tool that the professional tank builders use to hold the glass square with suction cups while the silicone dries.
Im not sure what its called but ive seen it at a glass product manufacturer. @Nemos Janitor ?

I use normal corner clamps to keep everything square.
