Hi all
Well I just got a star fish today , its blue in color and about 8cm in size. question ???What do they eat and how do they do in a tank?:slayer:

They generally do very well in established tanks, they graze on algae in the system no special feeding required.

Hi, you probably have a Linkia Laevigata (spelling :p). They mostly live of detris and algae. In my experience, the Linkia's are of the more difficult starfish to keep and should only be added to tanks 6 months and older (1 year+ preferably).

Unfortunately have to agree with cybervic, not a easy seastar to keep alive and healthy.

They generally need bigger mature systems. A 42L system is just not going create enough food for this sort of size seastar.

You can try target feeding, use something like whitefish or lance and place it next to the star and let him move on to the food.

Seastars can survive for long periods of time without food by slowly their metabolism down, but will eventually starve to death.

And probably will out grow your tank. perhaps keep him for a bit, and trade him. good luck
