Is the standard lights in the Boyu TL450 sufficient for various corals? Or should it be upgraded with better lighting?

If so, Any suggestions on what to do and what lights? Had mine today at Dorry Pets and lights aren't nearly strong enough...

Depends on what you want to keep.....low light corals like many softies (research which ones) will grow just fine under the standard lights.

Your new to the Hobby? leave lights as is and start with the basics and as you learn about different corals and what they require you can then look into upgrading your lights. Keep it simple and you wont have to stress ;)

    Hi Shaun88

We are doing a special on our 36Watt LED lights they are 12 X 3 watt LED's par is equivalent to a 150 Watt Halide.

You can either remove the lid all together and mount on the tank or you can do a mod on the hood and mount the light in the hood itself.

Lights are selling for R1999 all aluminium enclosure comes with hanging kit for tank mounting.

If you want to go led listen to submariner. i have gone the led route diy style. by the time you have done it all diy it would have cost you the same anyway! If you want to go additional lighting with what u have. talk to arries he has experience in this. also have a look at my previous tank. mandarinmans tl450 it will give you an idea of diy and what u can achieve that way.

I'm with Archie on this one. Stick with the standard lights for now with easy to keep corals. By the time you get the hang of the whole hobby you will (like the rest of us) want to upgrade to a better tank as you will have noticed the shortfalls of these all-in-one tanks.

Then you will start planning your future tank and the other awesome corals that you want to keep. Once you do this you need to start thinking about other lighting options. Also, no use in spending all this cash and you dont like the effort that this hobby requires. First get into this hobby properly before spending moola on nice hardware.

First learn how to maintain your tank. before moving on to more advance, more difficult and more expensive type of corals.

If the lights you have is new, tank is brand new, then the current lights is still good for the next 6 months. Only re-consider going LED then. You have enough other things to learn.
