    Hi

    I'm new here. Leslie is building me a tank...1500 x 700 x 700 approx 735l.

    The stand is made from: legs - 50 x 50 x 2mm @ 850mm high.
    Base for tank - 50 x 50 x 2mm @ 1550 x 750mm.
    Base for tank braced with 2 x cross pieces of 50 x 50 x 2.
Legs braced 100mm from floor with 50 x 5mm flat bar.

Something I almost forgot is that the legs each have an adjustable foot on made from flat bar and 20mm threaded bar. Will these hold?

Had a guy make it up for me. Considering that it'll weigh almost a ton I was wondering if it would be strong enough to hold the weight?

    Look forward to your comments.

    Thanks

Welcome to MASA, glad you joined. You're in quite good hands with Leslie, he sure knows his stuff around building and maintaining tanks.
The stand sounds fine seeing that 50mm square tubing is used. How many legs? Can you post a picture of the stand for us?

A very WARM WELCOME to MASA, Shaun777! Great to have you on-board!

YES - 50mm square tubing should be MORE than ample strong enough to keep the weight of the tank. BUT, this does mean that you should still need a centre "brace"/leg as well (for a 1.5 metre tank).... So - if you have used 6 legs in total, then DEFINITELY YES.

4 legs only, might be "pushing it"....

hey shaun good to see you finally post, as for the stand, i would like to come see it sometime.. im just concerned that it only having 4 points that touch the ground (the adjustable feet) will crack the tiles where it is going to be positioned. im also a little worried about it not having center vertical legs (if i understood you correctly on the phone.)

a picture wll help us in determining if it is suitable or not. taking into consideration the material used in its construction it should be fine..just call me over cautious.. ;)

hey Shaun welcome to MASA:thumbup: nice to see you on the forum;) your stand sounds good..but like the guys have said a centre brace/leg is a good idea.thats a lot of weight on that stand.i would rather play it safe.my stand is going to be 38 x 38mm square tubing with a 2mm wall thikness.im going to have two centre braces/legs back and front just to be safe:)
your tank is looking awesome man:thumbup: i cant wait to get mine going!

we all love pics here....so pics are a must:razz:

    Hi guys

Thanks alot for the replies. I dont have the stand at home. its still by the builder but i'll try get a pic to post. but by the sounds of things the adjustable feet hav got to go and the stand needs an extra 2 legs to make it 6 instead of 4. seems like overkill is the way to go...dont feel like mopping up all that water!!

gonna give the guy a shout and ask him to change it. thanks again for the help. will start posting the pics as things get going...

    Welcom Shun,

I have just completed my stand build, 2 days ago and i also decided against the machine feet, because of the load pressure they would exert on the tiles, i will level the stand using wood or steel wedges that will not create a load point..... load points on tile = tile cracks / fails = tank breaks !
