    Hi all,

I posted this in Gazza's live sand thread but decided it was off-topic.

I have a closet full of these babies - old school magneto optical disk cartidges. They were rotting in a shed at my old company, and when they wanted to throw them out, I grabbed like 200 of the things (the large inside disk is made of glass, but it's double-sided and has a beautiful CD-like pattern. My idea is to make a feature wall with the insides, so the cartridge casings are getting discarded).

As you can see, it's got a large sliding piece covering the disk which is made of the best quality SS you can imagine - they were lying in a damp shed for maybe 20 years or more, not a spot of rust on them. And the best part is, they're a thin U-shape (the disk looks identical on the other side), maybe about 12-15mm at the bend, so it's perfect for hanging over the edge of a tank with good depth. All one needs is to crimp or solder some sort of connector onto it. When I read about the various electrical hazards and earthing solutions, these immediately cam to mind. It would make for a very neat, unobtrusive electrode to place in your tank or sump.

I have dozens and dozens and dozens of these disks, if anyone wants to have any of these SS sliding plates, please let me know.

I am in Alberton, so you're welcome to come and pick up as many as you want :D

My USB memory and mini SD card both holds more than that big old disk.

    Yeah, it's crazy. They're 650MB a side, so 1.3GB in total.

Such is the march of technology!

(the disks I scored were used for a digital fingerprint storage system - I happen to have Nelson Mandela's fingerprints somewhere in my mancave, as it turns out)

So you want an electrode or three or not? :D
