    Hi guys

I want to build a stainless steel stand for a 800 x 800 x 700 tank. Want to use 316 as the price is similar to 304. the stand will be 810 x 810 x 800 high and out of 38mm square tubing. the 304 wall thickness is 2mm and the 316 wall thickness is 1.5mm.

What would you suggest is best? Will the 316 s/steel be strong enough with 4 feet?

    Thanks...Shaun

stainless steel should be strong enough.

But how will you weld it?

That is why its easier to weld a frame and get it galvanized.

316 is marine grade stainless and will last for ever if polished and it can be welded with a tig inverter with argon gas ,the wall thickness isn't an issue if u make a box shape it will be strong

Cool just get the welds polished to keep rust at bay for longer

I have changed it to 805 x 805 now. Just to have it slightly wider cos i'm gonna make three black fibreglass sides with a 5mm lip on the top of each to fit on the stand to cover the sump. with that 5mm lip it shud finish it off nicely and also just to keep tank corners slightly "outta the way"
