How do you know when a millepora or monti is dead or alive?

How long can they stay without light?

I got 1 of each from someone who had them in his sump for awhile. The millepora is bleached completely, but the monti still has some brown colour.

What is the best way to save them?

If they're snow white then they're probably dead. If the monti is alive the best would be to slowly acclimate them to the light. Start wiht the coral in the darkest part of your tank and slowly move it over a period of weeks to the brightest part of your tank. The emphasis is on slowly as you don't want to shock the coral

    Good advice from Tony.

Do they have any polyp extension?

Some Monti's will be fine in the sump for a bit. Have had 1 for 2 months with limited light ( sun light though 25mm polystyrene) still ok.

She is more than alive.Give her some decent lighting, flow and water parameters and watch her thrive.

I have got her in my sump under T8's, trying to acclimatise it before putting it under my MH's. only problem is there is no flow in my sump. How long before I can put her in my tank?

You can put a little powerhead in your sump.

Take the coral out of your sump and place it at the bottom of the DT (on the substrate). Move it up higher to the light, around 10 cm's every 3 days.
