How do you know when a millepora or monti is dead or alive?

How long can they stay without light?

I got 1 of each from someone who had them in his sump for awhile. The millepora is bleached completely, but the monti still has some brown colour.

What is the best way to save them?

If they're snow white then they're probably dead. If the monti is alive the best would be to slowly acclimate them to the light. Start wiht the coral in the darkest part of your tank and slowly move it over a period of weeks to the brightest part of your tank. The emphasis is on slowly as you don't want to shock the coral

Good advice from Tony.

Do they have any polyp extension?

You can put a little powerhead in your sump.
