Just to show you how hard we get hit by spammers trying to sign up on the forum...here are the first and last pages of our logs from the 5th Dec to today, so about 2 and a half months worth.

That's 11 452 spammers blocked from registering, an average of 152 every day.

Check how many free gmail accounts there are... Free email accounts should be killed imo.

Really?! Sorry dude but that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard?! :p so what about the millions of people out there that don't have a job where they get an e-mail address? Should they suffer cos of a few spammers? That's like saying ban alcohol and you'll rid the world if accidents and family violence..

So people who don't have jobs have access to the internet? I see. If you have enough money to get onto the internet you can pay the R10 - R20 (+-) for an email account....

If there weren't things like free email accounts I can guarantee you we'd see a hell of a lot less of this type of spam.

And again, I put emphasis on the price of an email account, and perhaps if this was the case then maybe if those same people paid the R20 for the email account to their ISPs the ISP would have more money to block the same f'ers that send out this spam.

Still the dumbest thing you've heard?

nothing wrong with free mail accounts, but i think the signup process should be a little more difficult and should entail some sort of verification.

That would make a tiny difference but the problem is that because it's free, a single person can have multiple email accounts. Imagine a person with 10 email accounts being used by multiple instances of the spam tool on one computer.

Only way to reduce the spam would be to charge that person the R10 - R20 per email account.

I don't think that by charging users you will reduce spam at all.

Just remember that you can spoof a email address. That means I can change my from e-mail address to anything I like! There are 1000's of open relaying mail server on the net. So you can send spam from any pc via a open relay server.

Gmail monitor e-mail, and if they detect you are spamming they block your account. All ISP's do that.

So this is not a free mail issue, this is a internet issue.

    Just my 2c :)
