Why build it, when you can buy it cheap at hardware stores.

I use a soil vent valve for a Durso. Just remove the rubber washers inside. Dril hole for airline tubing and attach control valve

So after all this work I can have a :peroni:, or two

Well, this is for the DIY challanged people out there, or for those (like me) with not enough time.
Still had to drill something, so it kind of still qualifies for DIY:lol:

massive advantage of this is that ppl with limited space could fit this in easier than a std durso pipe.... well done Riaan

Thanks for this great DIY Riaanp, so easy and simple. Paid R29 and to install 20min. No more snoring and the level stays constant. Drilled a hole for a small control valve and thats it. Made a few test runs with no problems. Highly recommended and the DIY OF THE MONTH. Now i can install my auto top off unit.

That's more of a stockman than a durso. How big is it? And what does a "soil pipe vent valve" normally get used for?

yes, its actually used in sewage pipes.
Just check around you. Old houses outside, had at the highest point in the sewage line a pipe going all the way up, through the roof and it sticks out another meter or so above the roof. Not highest pitch point, but above the wall. It is used to allow air movement in and out the sewage pipe, when you flush that big mamma down the drain.

On new townhouse complexes, these pipes sticking into the air is not there. You will see that the 110mm pipe from furtherest away toilet from main sewage connection do end off with a little round thing or square thing on top of it. If you pull that off, you will see that it fits onto a normal 50mm pipe. And inside it got 4 rubber valves. 2 in 2 out. just take them out.

Dose this method do away with the elbows that form a "semi circle"?

Yes. The "cap" is basically the piece to the side of a durso except it goes all the way around the pipe instead of sticking out so it's more compact.

Brilliant. Thats exactly what I need - I dont think I have space in my overflow box to make a conventional durso.

Riaan - is this as quiet as a regular durso?

diameter is about 70-75mm. your standpipe is 50mm.

Durso with a T sideways, with elbow facing down take a lot more space.
