This is a soft coral that i collected at Port Shepstone about a year ago. It's doing very good under mild lighting and low current, but i don't know it's name. Can anybody help me pls. To me it looks like a kind of a xenia.

It's hard to see the details of the coral from this picture, looks like a small branching coral Lemnalia or Neospogodes? Take a look at the picts on this site... is this what yours looks like (only not as extended)? http://www.garf.org/lemn02/1000neo.shtml

I had a look at the pics,no,the pics on the page are not a match, they are too feathery (the polyps). I am really confused as to what they may be. The closest I get is a xenid species. Any help from the ushaka people?

For local species it's probably best to send a PM to Ash, he might be able to help.

I too have some of this softy.
Grows at rockpool beaches like Treasure and Sheffield, not all that common.
Looks more like a "Colt" family, one of the Cladiella genus.

Dark chocolate brown when you find it (strong sunlight), then lightens up over time under less powerfull aquarium lights.

Stem and branches are snow white?

It may be the same one that you collected, coz mine was dark brown,it got a bit lighter, then about a week later it opened up again, still brown, but with a slight tinge of purple at the tips. It's truly lovely,I will take more pics in the morning
