It is quite scary at night. Just wait for something to touch your bare leg while you're swimming and let the freak-outs commence. And just a warning, you're not allowed to collect fish at night ;)

You'll probably see some cool stuff. Most likely a lot of cowries and nudibranchs as well as nocturnal fish like cardinals, lionfish and eels.

Good torch by the way. I've got the same one. I use it while snorkelling during the day to check out deep holes.

No prob. The torch works like a bomb. We did see cowries, eels, urchins. No nudibrances. A lot of funny worms and little mysid shrimp and other little critters. Was pritty cool. I had a little juvenile Butterfly fish in the palm of my hands  and some crustaceans you dont see during the day. I need to get an underwater camera now.

We used to dive the old Durban North Pier at night. Caught some nice big butterflies that way.
Annoying part was getting hooked by the fishermen on the pier.

Scary part was that strange doom dooom dooom sound you would hear when down at about 6m:p

Saw some of the usual fish, but was much easier to see shrimp with their eyes glowing!
Had my BC on the boat today. So when the fishing was slow, decided to have a quick dive on a shallowish reef off toti.... Managed to get 7 Lysmata amboinensis (skunk cleaner shrimp) and 3 Rhync hocienetes uritai (camel shrimp) and I wasn't even trying!!!

Does collecting mysis count as "fish collection" at night. I am utterly amazed at the laws and why some even exist. Totally amazed that breeding mysis would be Aqua- culturing but surely brine shrimp should then fall under the same law.

    Just asking out of interest;)
