    Hi Guys,

    My tank's been up for close to 6 months now, in total i've added 2 mexican turbo snails and 2 pyramid snails, the tank is 120l display. One of the mexican turbo snails kept falling on his back until one day never got right side up, so i removed him and replaced him with the two pyramid snails.
    for about the last 2 weeks the pyramid snails have not moved, i moved one when syphoning detritus 2 days ago, it had some movement after that but not enough to actually move.
    My parameters are:
    Nitrates = 0.01ppm
    Phosphates = <0.03ppm
    Magnesium 1320ppm
    Calcium = 400ppm
    Alkalinity = 7.9dkH
    pH = 8.3
    SG = 1.026

    My questions are a) Should i remove the two snails and b) Why do they keep dieing ?

    The other mexican turbo snail is still rocking and all over the tank with amazing speed.

    I find snails to be very hit and miss with regards to their survival rate. It also depends a lot on how they have been handled, if they are removed from the tank in the pet shop by being pulled off the glass instead of being gently eased off then it can injure them quite badly. Snails also need to be acclimatised much longer than normal.

    What would you then suggest to replace their purpose in the aquarium ? Weird that one snail has survived almost 5 months.

    Not sure what could replace them, you've just got to keep trying and accept the fact that you will have losses. Is there enough food in the tank for them?

    I would assume so, got some green hair algae and red turf algae, albeit getting less and less.

    HI do you have an ATU? or do u manually add RO? Rapid changes in salinity affects snails badly, i had the same problem as well.

    Hi noobsw, I have an ATU since the first month of the tank, salinity has been stable ever since i did a water change without unplugging my ATU, but that was i think my third water change, before the pyramid snails were introduced.
