    Hi Guys and gals,

    I NEED URGENT HELP,

I've set up my new cube tank in my office and I never had so much crap with a tank.
The tank is 900mm x 900mm x 700 high, I have led lighting and fine aragonite substrate. I bought some live rock from a pet shop filled it with water and all went well for about 2 weeks when all off a sudden some funny white hairy slimy almost snotty algae started appearing I attached some pics as well. When I looked in my sump I saw this same snotty crap all over too. now I spoke to a lot of guys and no one seems to know what it is. I went on Google and found something that looks like mine they call it Golden Algae or Chrysophyta(not that it is worth gold at all), they said syphon the tank and do water changes, so I thought what the hell so I stripped my whole tank cleaned everything and started from scratch. I even gave my live rock a light scrub, washed all equipment in fresh water.

So walked into my office today only to see the same stuff back on the rocks and already about 5cm long over night.

Pleas ,please can anyone help me I'm at a stage where I want to take a rock and smash this tank.

I anyone can help let me know,

    Thank you

Sure it's not snot from vermetids (they're snails but they look like tubeworms)? They send out threads of goo to trap detritus then pull them in. Can sometimes get messy if there are a lot.

If it's algae then just shut the lights off until the cycle is complete.

    Hey guys,

No its not vermetids I thought maybe its bacterial or something this stuff floats around in the tank if you put the power heads onto them. My overflow sock even becomes snotty, it even makes my skimmer do funny things. Don't know anymore.

    Thanx

i suspect it is something in the rock that gives it off...if all water parameters are met then it is die off of something..if not vermetids..and if vermetids are they any good..?

    Some info for you...;)
Vermetid snails are bad for stony corals, coral crabs keep em in check...
