    Hi everyone,

So my tank has been running for about a month now. I have a slim overflow at the back. I can't seem to get my water to stay at the same level. I have a ball valve on my return and my overflow. Once I dial it in it all stays level for a few days and then the overflow seems to drop and make noise again. This is really frustrating to the point of shutting down this tank!!!! :(

    any help is appreciated

Use a durso standpipe - quite easy to make and also safer - if that ballvalve gets clogged you are going to have a flood on your hands - especially if you have ATU in your sump

modify the standpipe to fit into the return plumbing - it can be small also. @RiaanP has a soil vent valve which may work - just buy the plumbing to suit your scenario

send pics of your overflow when you can - in the mean time search MASA for soil vent valve and for durso standpipe.
It can be dome many ways but the principle is always the same - allowing air in to prevent gargling. this principle just needs to be modified to suit your overflow

There is no gargling from a skinny overflow. Its a waterfall noise when the waterlevel in the skinny overflow drops. Bud, i just went through the same exercise. Started off with just a ballvalve on the overflow, but i think i would have better luck winning the lotto than getting the water levels to stay stable. Then i installed a ballvalve on the return line to bleed some water off. This also did not work for me. Only solution was to get a gate valve. It took me a whopping 15mins to get it dialed in and its been running smoothly for 10 days now. A tank with skinny overflow and bottom drains look amazing but it does come with its own negatives. I still prefer it to mu old setup with internal boxes and piping running behind the tank.

Pic of the plumbing. Middle 2 are the overflow drains, side 2 are the return lines.

Same problem I had with mine, has a ball valve, after many frustrating days and just before I installed a gate valve, I managed to set it just right, no more water fall sound effect. IMO, the gate valve serves the same purpose as the ball valve with the exception that it's easier or less time consuming to hit your right set. I think with the ball valve you need to tweak a split fraction at a time and have a lot of patience. @Dylant, if you like I can try assist over the weekend?
