Hello guy's,I have abit of a dillema here.I do rock and surf fishing at least once a month, sliding or throwing out a livebait.I presently use a speedmaster.I would like to purchase a daiwa multiplier reel which brings me to my question,sl3o or sl50.According to my knowledge, both are exact same regarding bearrings with the sl50 abit bigger so it can accomodate more line with a bigger diameter.Your advice would be much appreciated.

Hey Aslam. I got both, the 30 & 50. What rod you going to be using it on? We need to see if it balances well. I found the 30 to give me way more distance that my 50.

Ok sl30 is a demon reel but would only use it for ed's u will get between 250 and 300 metres of 0.40 line on the 30. Now the 50 would also be a good buy as you can target ed's and non ed's with it. I would say if you a diawa man in for the saltist 40 its in between the 30 and the 50 with a bit of braid backing you would be cool to slide smaller baits and would handle throwing any bait just as long as your rod is matched. I am a shimano man but have fished or owned most diawa reels. My personal choice would however be a trini or torium 20 as a reel that you could use for ed's and smaller non ed's

I would think if you going to be sliding, go for the 50 and 14ft rod.
As Tridan rekon, for edibles, the 30 will be fine.
Or even better get the Saltist 50, excellent throwing reel aswell as for sliding. Very smooth.

Hi,Mekaeel,I use a 14ft loomis and franklin. The sl50sh is abit big,but can a sl30sh handle throwing and retrieving a 7 ounce sinker.I am by no means a shark fisherman but if there is 1 at the other end of the line, what the hell.

Then by all means go for the SL 30. should finances not be an issue, go for the Saltist 30 or 40 or even the daddy of all, Saltiga 30 or 40 :)

Shark fishing- go for the 50. You need all the line you can get onto that reel. What size/weight Loomis do you have? 400/2 , 400/3 etc

Btw, it is the rod that determine the size grapnel/weight and not the reel

In that case I would go for the 50. You'll have choice in fishing for big fish, as well as scratching for edibles, whereas the 30 is gonna take a beating if you hook up onto a 70kg plus Sandy or a 50kg plus Zambi. Not to mention the huge skates, they are like steamtrains and like to take a lot of line
