    Hi.

So my next question comes as to which of these would be best for a tank of about 450l.

or another brand or model at more or less the same price. +-R2500.

    Any opinions appreciated.

    Thanx

can get something like a TS2 rather. that will be sufficient for a 450ltr system. IMHO i dont know much about Skimz just that they are extremely expensive. Reeftec is a gr8 make skimmer havent seen any problems with them, but what you can also look at is the bubblemagnus. brilliant skimmers. extremely quiet and afordable. also doesnt take up a lot of space inside the your sump.

Just keep to mind, to get a skimmer rated greater than your current tank volume, this will allow for better skimming and for changing/adding livestock to your system.

IMO my total system is 600L including the sump, my skimmer is rated to 2000l general and 1000l for a dominated SPS system

I own 2 of the skimz sm121 skimmers & I absolutely love the physical skimmer, but the pumps are nothing more than crap... Ive had to replace 5 pumps & 2x impellers since ive used them. I have since changed the skimmer pumps & installed the new waveline DC3000 pumps with pinwheel impellers & now they skim like beasts.

My personal opinion... Get yourself a bubble magus curve 5 / 7 skimmer. You wont find a better skimmer at that price anywhere. You will save yourself a lot of money if you go for the bubble magus...

The ts3 skimmer is a good skimmer, but is starting to get outdated when compared to the newer & more effective skimmers. (energy saving & performance wise).

newer is always better. or so they say.

The TS3 is way to big for a 450L system. TS2 would be fine.

But the new Bubble Magnus curve skimmers that compares to a TS2 is basically the same price. Not that much more. You will be surprised. I know Pet Stop do stock the older TS2 and the Bubble Magnus. Worthwhile to pick up the phone and find out.

    Thanx guys..

@RiaanP the rating on the TS3 says 700l.. Many people advise for going with a rating more than the tank volume. Plz advise further..

it is always better going for 1 that is a bit bigger than what the actual system is yes. you can definitly go for this, but the better buy would be the bubble magus skimmer. curve 7 should be more than enough to handle your system

I do have a TS3 on the shelf in my garage. Needs a new impeller shaft. Let me see first if I can get hold of a new shaft.

I have a Skimz sm201, the pump packed up and replaced it with a eheim compact 5000.
Now it's a beast. I would personally never buy skims again due to the pump reliability. There are many threads detailing the failures! The body is build like a tank!

You will never go wrong with reef octopus / reeftek
If I ever buy a skimmer again it will be reefoct bubble blaster.
