Hi Guys

When medicating for say ich, I know one should remove UV and carbon whilst dosing meds. Do you guys also switch off your skimmer?

Thanks

R

what you using copperband?

Yep remove the skimmer..... but a small airstone in the tank wouldn't do any harm

hi copperband, how much copper in ml do u put or to put in a 100 gallon tank?
Brand use Copper-Tru.

Never a good idea to use copper in anything but a fish only system, even then if you want to convert to a reef later on, you will have to be careful if there is copper locked up in the substrate and live rock.

Personally, I would only dose any treatments if it was a last resort. I assume you have live rock? THere will be lots in there that could die with the treatment and cause higher no3 levels.
As for the skimmer, if you do dose, yes, it should be off. BUT I would rather adjust it so that it is still running and injecting air, although not enough to produce skimmate.
Turing it off will cause issues with your pH and ORP, which imo could do more harm than good for the fish.
HTH,
Neil
