i have a 4ft DT and i want to build a 4ft DSB on that i want to put a algae scrubber, i would like to know where the scrubber should go , is it before the skimmer or after the skimmer , i will add a simple diagram , if there are any other ideas on how to do this it will be appreciated,
i have a 4ft tank that i want to convert into a DSB, i need to know how many compartments this will need...

I think no 2 is probably a better solution. However I would take out that baffle and make the DSB as big as possible and drain your ATS in the same chamber as your skimmer.

Jus another thought. Why dont you drain your DT directly onto the ATS and then into the skimmer chamber. This would eliminate a pump and your DSB can the even be bigger??

there is a hight issue with this my dt doesnt stand very high so it will have to drain into the sump first then pumped back up to ats , the dsb will be 600mm x 450mm with a sand bed of 200mm.

Robert, let your srubber run the length of your tank, not the depth. You will have a much larger screen, meaning more efficient filtration. ;)

If the skimmer is after your ATS you will skim off any pod life that exists on the ATS, dont go that route

Agree with Manta, remove that baffle and get a bigger DSB, and let your scrubber flow over the DSB

In my sump I have the TS4 first, then AFTER the TS4 intakes I have a pump that feeds the ATS which is suspended over my DSB

Jaco, the length of the sump or just of the DSB?

Yes, height might an issue for you yes. Come have a look at my setup, then work you mind around that... Having it on the side of your tank might be best for you... ;)

The bigger the better... I saw Roberts tank last night, and height will be an issue. I would also go with as big ATS as you can.

Hi Robert - I agree. I also think that No 2 would be the better of the 2.

That said - I would remove the glass seperator between the chamber where you want your ATS to drop into, and the DSB. The ATS can drop off over the DSB. Rather maximize your DSB size if you can. Would be far more advantageous.

i think option 3 would be best, where you put the skimmer in the very first chamber, the the ATS pump in the second chamber, if you go with nr2 a large amount of water will bypass the skimmer

    Hi Guys!

I find this Tread intresting. Anothet think! What do you guys think of Suppling
the ATS from the return pump. Just ad a "T" on the return to the tank and
route it to the ATS! That's what i'm thinking of doing.

    Cheers

Christo - that too can work 100% fine..... Where is the water going to go, from the ATS?

return pump chamber will be 100mm wide and the inlet and skimmer chamber will be 300mm wide this leaves 800 for DSB
