    Hi Guys

I see there was a lot of talk about skimmers overflowing and the amount of water it wastes. Another question I wanted to ask was what happens if the skimmer cup overflows back into the sump?

Is this a problem? What will happen to my water quality?

If your skimmer cup have a overflow pipe, use a container to catch the waist water.
You do not want all that nastiest flowing back into your system!

I have a rule with my skimmer cup, I clean it weekly.
If it fills within one week, then I'm skimming to wet.
If it does not fill in one week I'm skimming to dry.

Also try and add a float switch to the skimmate collection container because if it overflows then atleast it will.switch.off skimmer until.u notice and sort it out...

A skimmer delay switch aswell as float switch is also a good idea for insump skimmers because when switching off the return pump the water level rises in the sump causing water to rise in skimmer and when u switch the return pump back on the skimmer will overflow...the delay switch and float switch will prevent any insump skimmer mishaps.

It looked like there was a bit of a problem on the setting because when I moved it up to have it skim better and moved it back down to the same level it was before it started skimming alot more foam. I work long hours so I cannot empty it through out the day. I will need to add a overflow pipe as not it just overflows back into the sump. Will it boost my nitrates? phosphates? etc?

@Ridwaan that sounds interesting. Is there alot involved in adding a float switch or skimmer delay switch? The option of drilling a hole in the extraction cup seems fairly basic and efficient.

not a mission to install a float switch...
Yes, installing a float switch to the skimmer cup will also work fine. ATB does that to their skimmers...
