Want to know by you guys, should the skimmer run 24/7 or what?

This might be a stupid question, but I don't have a answer for it.

There are a few different schools of thought on this, I tried switching my skimmer off every night, but after a couple of days I got this horrible feeling that my pumps were not happy with this so I stopped doing it. A skimmer is designed to run 24/7 so let it run. Another thing I was concerned with leaving the skimmer off overnight, would the neck start to dry out and result in the skimmer under performing when being switched back on? There were too many variables for me so I gave up in the end and just let it run 24/7.

Run it 24/7, dont understand why people switch it off in the first place.

I read in the tunze manual, they recomends only running it 8 hours a day.

On a Reeftek TS2 , the pump I got with it cannot handle being switched on and off. The Rotor / Impelar comes loose from the magnet. So check the rotor unit. I will just leave it on.

I learned the hard way, need an new impelar.
