I was sitting around on Sunday with a really gloomy day ahead of me with all the rain we have been having. So decided to strip my skimmers as it has been about 6 months since the last stripping down. This was over due as i could not see bubbles in the Octopus with all the calcareous algae in the chamber, massive job ahead. Well 4 hrs later, half a bottle of vinegar and plenty elbow grease the skimmers as well as the pumps were clean. Started them up and i must say i am surprised by how better the performance of a clean skimmer is. This is something that should be done twice a year, just remember to tap the skimmer back when you restart as you may end up flooding the floor.
Here's what they look like with less than 24hrs skim mate.
