    Morning all :)

So santa arrived a few weeks ago and I need a bit of help with identification of equipment. A family friend gave my parents his previous marine aquarium, which they are passing on to me.

Basically, the family friend cant remember what the skimmer is and he doesn't have original packaging. The tank is in jozi and I am in cape town. These are the only pics I have of the skimmer.

The skimmer is 570cms high, 15 cms wide.

Any one know how I can identify it? There are no brands on it.

What's the pump make that runs the skimmer? Should be able to give a hint...
A lot of skimmer makers only use certain pump makes (unless it has been upgraded)

@Zandy thanks for the guess. Next question, if it is a dymax skimmer, is it any good?

Looks similar to one of the weipro hang on back skimmers...
Unfortunately, they are all venturi type skimmers, & they're not very efficient.
You can convert them with pinwheel skimmers, but it would be better to rather replace with a better secondhand skimmer

What are you planning regards the stocking of your tank??? What fish ect... you will need to first cycle the tank which will give you time to find a good secondhand skimmer which long term will work more efficient. But as a start off that skimmer csn work

Well, this is probably going to be a lightly stocked predator tank late next year. There will be no rush to actually set this up. I want to try find out what I have before continuing to plan a pred tank. A lionfish, a trig, seriously not much planned just yet.

well it is a hang on skimmer.

The tank also came with a fluvial filter system, no sump and 2 wavemakers.

@Zandy it matches the dymax LS50's dimensions.

Does not look as if the tank is drilled with an overflow fitted.
So the skimmer will work as a hang on back skimmer, and the canisters as well. But in long term a sump will be better. Going for a predator tank with no corals and yes, the setup as is will work.

@RiaanP I will be adding a sump to it, in due time. I am months away from setting up. Do you have any idea's on the skimmer? Also, some littlebird once told me that these fluvial filtration systems are not really adequate for marine. Thoughts?

Do you have the lid for the skimmer?

Some setups do use those Fluval canister filters. But they tend to become a maintenance issue. They block up and become detritus traps. If you do maintain it weekly, then its OK. Some gets converted into carbon reactors or used for some other chemical filtration use.

Thanks Andre. Looks like the PS-600, the skimmer cup and sizes are different to the 300. I haven't seen much online about this skimmer, is it any good?
