    Morning all

I have two questions I need some help with or lets call it confirmations that I have everything setup correctly

Firstly my skimmer, does it look like my skimmer is working correctly, I'm only in my second week of cycling so do not expect it to be skimming but does this look right. It is a reeftek 1.

Second question, I have my return pipe near my slimline overflow but flowing away from the overflow. What I would like to know if this will work or should it be on the opposite side of the tank and if so why, what are the benefits?

    Thanks in advance

    your return is OK

The skimmer water level is too low.
Raise the outlet pipe until the water level is above the black cone shaped plastic ring when running. Bubble should be almost in the neck, pushing up.

    @RiaanP, thanks.

When you refer to the outlet pipe are you referring to the white pipe in the images?

    yip - agree with Riaan

also note that your skimmer should be pulling crap out already. When i started, i was shocked to see how much filth my skimmer was pulling from brand new tank and brand new water during the cycle.

From the pics your skimmer does not appear to produce enough bubbles. If it is the case then it will also not produce skimmate. Can you post a side on pic of the skimmer to get a better idea on the amount of bubbles it is producing?

nope, the outlet, where those black donut sponges go, That pipe can be moved up or down. Can just make it out in the bottom of the pictures. Yours seems totally submerged. The black pipe is like a sleeve around the inner standpipe. It fits tight, but can be turn and pulled to get it set higher.

@mariusmeyer, I will take images from the side tonight and post @RiaanP, if the outlet pipe is at its max, should I lift the entire skimmer by putting something under it?

What is the white pipe for?

    Thanks for the help guys

the white pipe? the flexible hose? That goes into the little "pill" box.
    It is your air intake.

Post a picture from the side.

see the sponges are on a black pipe. That pipe should move up to increase the internal water level.

Perfect, understand now. Will do that tonight.
Thanks for the explanation on the white pipe for air intake, makes sense.

Thanks for all the help guys. I find it great that you are all prepared to share your knowledge with us newbies.

    Hi All

I have made a few changes but still not working as should be. As you can see below. It is not going above the black cone part. Is mine maybe the wrong way around?

    20131113_185554.jpg

I raised the skimmer as I could not extend the outlet pipe any further
    20131113_185848.jpg

In the image below you can see the outlet pipe is about 2" out the water

To raise the water level you can remove the plastic it stands on. Then the waterlevel will rise in the skimmer body. Maybe someone will experience with the TS1 can verify whether the amount of bubbles produced is normal as It looks to me that there is not much bubble production.

Have to agree...i have a ts1, ts3 and ts3 skimmer so very well informed about them and i can tell you your are not working at optimal level. Are you sure that you pushed the pipe coming from the pump deel enough into the hole at the bottom of the skimmer?? there has to be a turbine of note where the pump goes into the body of the skimmer. Also check that the black plate that you find under the skimmer cup is the right way around...it has to show up like a cone:thumbup:

the cone is upside down and you should raise the outlet even more.

The black cone inside the body of the skimmer is upside down, also if you look carefully in your last pic where you have circled the skimmer outlet in green, you can see that the vertical adjustment pipe is missing, you can clearly see the little seal o-ring about 20mm down from the top of this pipe. There should be a black pipe that slips over this pipe that can be adjusted vertically by sliding it up or down to adjust the water level in the skimmer. Once you have fitted this pipe adjust the water level in the skimmer body to about 10mm under the little halfmoon cutout in the lip of the body under the skimmer cup and you should be pretty good.

OK, my made the changes recommended by other reefers and my skimmer is work like a charm. One last question regarding the skimmer for now. What is the best setting for a skimmer, should it foam to just below the lip of a little more?

    Thanks Paul
