So doing research and was wondering what the opinion of the people is on external vs internal protein skimmer.
    Powerhead or wave maker?
How many powerheads/wavemaker is required for a 550lt tank

What is a good protein skimmer, powerhead or wavemaker to look at?
    In a reasonable price rage.

    Thanks

Its like asking which 4X4 is the best one. You will get the Toyota fans swearing that their bakkie is simply the best. Where Nissan guys will interrupt while the Ford guys stand back smiling all knowingly. And the farmers using Mahindra smiling due to their positive bank balance.

There are skimmers, and more skimmers. All got one or other different gimmick, making them the best option on the market. Guideline to use is to check their recommended rating and price. Use that to measure them against each other.

Same for powerheads. Vortech are the best although expensive. According to some with a list of reasons. Seio Tunze, Voyager, Jabea, SunSun.... etc... Pulsing, wave, constant, wide flow, narrow stream pump. Suckers, magnetic, fixed head, changeable direction. There are so many options.

Best bang for buck pump. The cheap simple SunSun 3000L/h. I bought another 2 last weekend.

Which skimmer and flow will depend on what you plan to keep and what other means of filtration you will have. Soft coral and fish generally require less flow than sps. Youll need a bigger/better skimmer if you want heavy biolad or if its your main means of filtration.

Thank you was just wondering because there is so many brands on the market.

At this stage I think of doing a mixed coral tank if that is poss with a small amount of fish still need to go and research what is a good mix of fish that is coral friendly.

If I can give you some advise.....Start simple, no need for the expensive equipment. In terms of coral start of with the simple stuff like pins and leathers and work your way up from there. We all want mix reefs but different coral require different requirements. If you aiming big you going to spend alott of money for nothing and before you know it you give the hobby up because its just too expensive. First learn the basics, get the hang of it and progress from there.

That is the plan to start and work myself up. That is why I want to buy the right equipment instead of buying and then realize I need something else or that it is insufficient.
