    Hi There,
I hope Im posting in the correct section,
I need some help with skimmers.
I have a 120L tank and currently have a HOB Aqua Via skimmer,
Im content with the skimmer and haven't had a problem with it,
But im looking to upgade it,
Any suggestions on a HOB skimmer rated for around 300L
Also need to know how does an external skimmer work and is it advisable to have one without a sump... if it is possible which will be a good external skimmer.

    Thank you
    Keegan

most of the external skimmers I have seen are like the bubble blasters etc. Check out the bubble magus range, they have a hang on the back skimmer. Talk to @ziyaadb, he knows his skimmers

LOLs @Tremayn u making me work here
Keegan any skimmer can be rated for any tank as can be seen below, it all depends on the size of the tank as well as the bioload in the tank and how fast u want to remove the DOC's. (that reminds me to start on it) anyways to answer your question.

If you want to upgrade the HOB skimmer ur only option locally is to get the reefocto HOB skimmers,
    BH - 1000 comes with OTP 1000pump - rated 300L IMO OVERATED
BH - 2000 comes with OTP 2000 pump - Rated 500L IMO Overated
BH - 800S comes with Sicce 2500 pump - Rated 900L:whistling: IMO WAYYYY OVERATEd - most expensive most powerfull will be best on 300L tank

You can have an external skimmer without a sump, ur only issue would be where do you keep it as it would need to be higher then the tank as you would need to feed the skimmer tank water and the water would need to fall back into the tank.
If you want to go that route you would need lotsa space above the tank for it.
    I would reccomened a DNW150 extrnal for a 300L tank

dude i have found the AM TF blue 1000 to be a winner in price and punch, its a very polupar skimmer when hang on is the only way of attaching one. they are not too badly priced and owing to the fact that they have a mesh wheel id say they can push a little more than the 500lt capacity they claim.

    check out the vid.

    2 things to consider

    1. there is a big difference in price +- R1k more than the blue
    2. and no mesh wheel
it is rated for 1000lt which im a little sceptical about.. but a good skimmer though

    Thanks guys!!
Im not really liking the AM TF blue 1000 as the pump sits inside the tank...

The BH - 1000 looks way better, only one issue tho, See I have the a Juwel tank and these tanks have a huhe ass lip on the top of where the glass ends, and this is the current issue I have with my HOB skimmer
its not strong enough to suck the water in, with an extensive to the inlet pipe.
Does the BH - 1000 come with an extension...? any idea how much these guys go for?
