I would like to know if new silicon will stick to old silicon. The tank I am about to use stood in the garage for a long long time and I want to cover that clear silicon with the black one to get the frame effect.Another thing is what type black can I use as marine only comes in clear. Some guys said I can use the "car" silicon.

Not the ideal idea bud .... Get yourself some piano wire and strip the glass apart .... Then relisilicone .... The last thing you need is the tank coming apart at the seams just when you finished cycling and stocking .... Sleep better knowing thst its new seals

Den braven black silicone is the only reliable black silicone on the market!
They are expensive, but worth it!
As for gluing over old silicone. I wouldnt glue directly onto it. It is better to cut it out to expose the clear glass & then re-glueing it...

Thanks for the info you guys, the tank is all and well and capable of holding the water in without collapsing. The black silicon is for the frame effect only, not securing the panels.Maybe I should consider a frame on the outside with maybe bronze aluminium angle or something similar, what else can I use?
