    Hi all,

I currently have a 3ft Odyssea T5 pendant, using 1x 10000k white, one greenish-looking tube (these two make the tank go yellowish, looks very nice) and then two blue actinic tubes.

The actinics make the tank look nice but for now I am more interested in getting everything growing properly and having enough light for my corals. I'm also a bit worried that my tangs aren't getting enough fresh green stuff in their diet and so want to get a bit more algea going. I have absolutely no GHA in my tank, and only a little bit of the unicellular stuff. The only other algae I have growing are coraline. There is also no cyano to be found anywhere.

Would it be a good idea to replace the actinics with white for the time being?

    Thanks!
    Riaan

your corals will look crap and washed out no nice colour. never heard of anyone liking a yellow tank..

and for tangs there are marine grazers which they freak out for

It looks like sunrise/sunset - very mellow. The tank actually has more overall colour with the actinics off - the actinics wash everything quite harshly.

    Everything on:

does the unit still have the odysea globes?

if so that's where your problem lies

i had my odysea units setup as follows, with Giesmann Globes:

    1 - Blue
    2 - White
    3 - White
    4 - Blue

A ratio of 1 actinic to three other tubes is not bad. I am not sure what the greenish tube is but I'd recommend 2 x whites, 1 x blue (14000-16000K) and an actinic - this will give a nice compromise between growth and colour.

    It was setup originally as:

    1 - Blue (Rear)
    2 - White
    3 - Greenish
    4 - Blue (Front)

But everything looked a bit pale. I then did a trick which works for Neon Tetras and the like, which is to move the actinics to the front:

    1 - White
    2 - Greenish
    3 - Blue
    4 - Blue

This made a huge difference in making the flourescence pop on everything, and really brought out the gold and purple on my coral beauty. (It mostly looked blackish and orangey-brown before)

One need to change your tubes every 6 months to a year depending of the make of tube?

Razors are LED, I think that's what he meant.

There's an original Odyssea white, dunno the green (didn't really check), and at least one of the blue ones is a Reeftek. It's a mix and match and they're getting ready for replacement anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

going with all 10k will induce growth of not only coral but algae aswell, given that your system is newly set up and still chemically stabalising i would in fact stick with a bluer spectrum..

When replacing, there are only really two types of globes you should look at, especially when you wanna add sticks: ATI or Gieseman. When you do cvhange, only do 1 at a time and change twem at least two weeks apart..
