    Hi Guys,

Do you know anything about shipping fish from the UK to SA?

The reason why I ask is because I am in the UK at the moment and I have been to a few places here and I have seen some really unusual fish and the prices (even with the exchange rate) are much cheaper here.

I asked the store owners and they have all said that they dont know what to do etc to ship.

Please let me know if you know anything.

    Thanks,
    Lance

well the short is its not going to happen really

on this side you will need a SARS clearance cert, you will need a certificate of health from the petstore which is about $120, then you will need to get an import permit from DAFF so buy the time you have paid the permits etc it works out the same, plus you have the risk of shipping. these fish have already shipped from source via air etc and probably still stressed etc

eish, now theres bad advice! please do not try smuggle living organisms, many of which are protected under cities regulations over borders and on planes, you will get caught and its a hefty fine or jail time, seriously not worth it.

and in case shaunn was joking, its still not a good thing to joke about as people may well get ideas that are not worth trying on.

    Hi Lance,

Sadly you have no legal way in which you can bring the stock into the country. You would need a exporter on that side (I could help with a contact) but after that you would need several certificates on this side including the tax clearance, MCM and in some cases CITES permits.

The airline will also not allow the water onboard and they would have to be preloaded as freight. When they arrive in JHB they have to be cleared by a agent and believe it or not the Meat and poultry and department of forestry.

I am not a supplier but I am a importer and if this is a marine fish dealers have on there lists you would be better off ordering them on this side even though you have to pay more.

Unlike DVD's, live animals can not be imported by bypassing distribution

Hope that helps and YES I know how it feels to see the stock and not be able to buy them - hate it every time.

    Regards

    Andre

    Hey Guys,

Thank you for the replies. I will just have to dream... haha.

For example, flame angels are about the same as R650.

    Yellow tangs are like R350

    mmmm Madness

You can get those in SA for the same / similar price, our LFS not a sponsor sells the flame for R750.

As mentioned in my previous post - ENJOY THE SHOPS and take photo's. When I visit the States I am like a kid in a candy store - so much of everything and at such good pricing and a store in every damn street but sadly only memories to take home.

I think the U.K. is probably more relaxed but my suitcase has been intercepted by the US on several visit's. Arriving at your hotel you are greeted with a message inside the suitcase stating that it has been searched.

Enjoy every minute of your visit.

    Andre
