    Hi Guys,

I have a bamboo shark that I hatched early this year. He has been doing wonders and has grown 17cm from birth and is now sitting at 33cm after 9 months.

He has been eating squid since a few days old and loves it. The last week he has been turning his head away and getting all grumpy.

I tried to entice him with live freshwater tetras. he seemed excited but then just smelt and swam away.

The only thing that has really hit my tank hard is fluke. I added some praziquantel to the tank. he doesnt seem stressed. Just the non eating is getting to me.

Is there anyway to force feed him?
    If so how?

    Advise please.

I guess that shows his feeding instinct is still there. I have no experience with these sharks but as a thought, maybe he is bored with the squid? Have you tried different types of foods, maybe some frozen prawns or shrimps?

This is an anglers point of view, when we target sharks and they are not on the bite we use big oily bloody baits to get them on the bite. TUNA,BONITO,MACKEREL or SARDINE and if they in the area its sure to get them into a feeding frenzy . I am no expert in tank sharks but maybe this can put you in the right direction or help with some ideas. hope this helps.

This may help, or not. .

Feed the shark. Your new bamboo shark will eat foods such as uncooked shrimp, scallops, mussels, and pieces of fresh marine fish, squid or octopus. Cut any large food into bite-sized pieces.[26]Do not feed your shark common feeder fish such as goldfish or guppies. These freshwater fish are not a natural food for bamboo sharks. If you wish to feed your shark live food, use silversides or sand eels.[27]Bamboo sharks only need to be fed every two or three days. Give the shark a large portion of food a few times a week. If it loses weight, increase feeding. A juvenile shark should grow, but if an adult shark shows signs of weight gain, reduce the amount of food.

    Feeding tetras is just cruel
What are your tank parameters? Sharks are sensitive to changes.
Maybe try a change in food, something like fresh mussels or urchin

    Hi all,

    Thanks for the replies.

I got a fresh squid from the shops yesterday. As I thought maybe he didnt enjoy the month old squid in the frezzer.

I gave him the stomach part that has the yellowish pus looking stuff inside. This apparently tastes the same as the embryo of the egg.

As soon as the squid touch the surface he was swimming past and grabbing it out my hand again. He then had 3 more pieces and was very happy.

It was the way I got him to start eating after he hatched. It is to just create a feeding response. The salt with the freshwater fish help the fish to undergo stress and replicate a dying or hurt fish in the ocean and the sharks feel the vibrations of a fish that is weak and an easy meal.

It may be cruel but allowing a fish or any other livestock to starve is just as cruel and if it takes drastic measures to get them eating and staying healthy im all for it.

But I do agree with you that it is a harsh thing to do but it was neccessary.

Much better thanks. Sorry forgot to update the thread. I got him fresh squid and gave him the stomach area with the yellow pus looking stuff as it apparently tastes like the embryo of the egg (took him back to his roots)

Without any trouble he chowed down on it very fast and came swimming for more. Since then I have given him a few more pieces and very happy again.

    Sure thing.

It hasnt been my complete focus lately as I have been worrying on the new build that should start within a few weeks.

Will post pics of the entire setup. I have done a few changes since the last set of pics I took. Will post the old and new ones as soon as I get the chance.
