19-year-old Yellowsands local, Michal du Plessis is lucky to be alive after he was attacked by a four metre Great White shark at Yellowsands point earlier today. Michal was enjoying clean 3-4 foot solid waves with four of his close mates when, at approxomatly 1pm, the shark struck him from underneath Another surfer, Rodger Berkhout, who has 10 feet away when the attack happened said that, "Michal was paddling back from a smoker of a wave when the shark came out of nowhere and just mauled him. "

The shark then let go and Michal was able to catch a wave in. His friends were able to carry him off the rocks and into their car. He was rushed to a local doctor who called an ambulance. Michal is currenlty in a stable condition in St. Domincs Hospital where he is undergoing surgery.

Mark - I am not questioning you. But - most definitely questioning this "article". I have seen many shark bites to surfboards - and that sure does not look like the bite from a 4-metre white shark.

Has this story ever been confirmed by any authorities on sharks?

And to be truthful - a 4-metre white shark, would most likely cause the surfer to end up either dead, or in such a bad state, that the surgeons would HAVE to spend at least 6 to 8 hours in surgery trying to save this person!

nope. don't believe this is a 4m either. having seen some big boys before there is no way that is a 4m. the shark would have bitten right through the board and most probably the surfer, what do you reckon jb? a 4m should have a mouth width of at least half a metre?

Maybe that wasnt the full jaw and only the snout - Sharks are not always perfect on their bite and rely on other senses besides sight in the closing bite - They would often jus test items to see if it is edible or fun to eat:lol:

Ya lets see. pm me if you cant post please:) i can understand grazing the board. i can level with that. the board would flip over from the hit, and also from the surfer coming off the board, possibly the reason for the odd bite shape

Leslie, i am disgusted in you that you would do this. i have been reporting for zigzag surf magazine about the attack and they have even told me they wont run any pictures they get.

Michal father is going to track where this photo came from and take legal action.

What's the big deal? If I witness something and take a picture, send it to my friends to see - will the FBI come raid my house and someone sue me? Ag please man, come on...
It's a free country, and Leslie didn't just post it - he asked first ;)
