Were they not on that nat geo program that is currently on. I think the divers name is Mike Rutzin or something.

I have dived with them at Bayworld, we used to have two of them. For the divers they were far more of a problem than the Raggies. When the Raggies come at you you can push them away with a PVC pipe and they swim a bit before coming back at you.
With the cowsharks as you are pushing them away they are turning straight back at you and we have had it where we have had to call off the dive and clean windows on another day, I can remember once when I was pushing one away with it turning straight back at me at least seven times. They look like gummy bears with their mouth but when they use them have very efficient dentition, grabbing onto their prey and shakin their head from side to side while spinning their body to cut out a mouth shaped chunk, very impressive to watch. They are the second biggest consumers of African penguins if I remember correctly (but I could be wrong) with White sharks being first. Unfortunately our tank gets too warm for them in Summer, so we do not keep them anymore.

Apparently there was a short article in a recent Nat Geo magazine.
I did see them on another program (think it was animal planet) and there were made out to be extremely rare, only found in deep water and also notorious man-eaters. In the hour long program, they only filmed two and the diver panicked when they actually saw one in the water.

Thanks for the info Steve. Been years since i last visited that aquarium, think its abuot time i made a turn there again.

The shark night program is on Nat Geo wild at 19h00 tonight. I will watch again and see if the cowsharks are in there. But i think you are right and it was on another program.

OK what I know about 6 gills is that they live very very deep but they do come up closer to the surface during the night. When I was in New York last I was invited to fishing for 6 gills but I declined couldnt stomach the thought of catching sharks and I love fishing but that wasnt for me, to cruel.

There is another one on this afternoon at 14H00. Shark island. I really must get a PVR to tape these things.

Anyways, it is sooo hot in JHB i am going to jump in the pool for a while, have a bite to eat then settle in front of the flat screen. :peroni::peroni:
