This may be a really stoopid question, but I'm desperate enough to ask it.

    I'm busy setting a 200L marine tank with a 100+ liter sump.

In my Boyus I had a lot of live rock (compared to the total volume) and that "saved" my sand from being blown away.

In my 200L I want to use less live rock and I have larger areas of "exposed sand".
I use fine sand (CaribSea arogonite) and it seems no matter how I aim my wave makers the sand gets blown around.

Do I just let it blow the sand around and see how it settles? Is there a trick I'm missing?

I want to get good flow everywhere - but what is the trade off between good flow and proper sand coverage?

Any advice will be much appreciated.

    hey @Marine007...

I have a corner tank and also had some issues...nevertheless wth 3 flowpumps and 12000lph, I resorted to having the flow fight each other a bit and also some flow aimed at the surface...

    Hope you come right...

i've seen a number of people do is setup their displays and flow, then add the live rock, thus where you have the flow disturbing the sand you drop a rock.

I have the same substrate and have quite a strong flow in my tank, and the sand did blow a little on the first day but settled down quite quickly. It shouldnt be a problem, unless your pump is pointing downward.
You can try putting the pump a bit lower and pointing it more upward.

Thanks guys - my new Tunze pumps arrived via courier today. As soon as I get the kids to bed I'm going to set them up and follow your advice!

Love these Tunze controllable pumps - set them up at minimum speed and they did blow up a little dust, but nothing serious.

I set the 2 pumps to counteract each other a bit as suggested by ClownFish9906 and it works quite well.

Completely forgot to take some. But will do so tonight or tomorrow morning.

Spending too much time at the office - I think I should set up a webcam on my tanks so that I get to enjoy it more hours in a day!
