    You can use them.

But they can trap detritus leading to nitrate problems. But if you have effective nitrate removal then by all means use them.

I'm just not a fan of them.

    Interesting, Thanks!
What about using Two Oceans Aquarium water, is cycle process/period the same?

. Very little bacteria is actually in your water.

The maturity and the amount of die off from your rocks determines the cycle time.

I've never used aquarium water, but I hear that some of the parameters aren't perfect for our tanks. Might need to dose to get parameters in check.

    Hi there,
Im not new to fish keeping but brand new to Marine. I have a 1000l tank with 2 external 2500l/ph mech filters and built in sump. I bought an external sump some time ago and hanging overflow. But due to the tank build cant use the overflow. My question is. Do I remove the small built in sump and get the pros to come drill a hole and make an overflow or do I sell the complete tank and start from scratch?

On a 1000L tank, you need somebody to rather come out and drill the tank at your place.

My current tank had a overflow box right in the middle back panel when I got it. I cut out the box, and covered the outlet holes with a small glass panel. Had new holes drilled by Deon from Dorry Pets. HE came out one afternoon. Fitted new overflow box and.

What do you mean by built in sump?

Think he means something like a tl550s compartment at the back?

@DBinn take some pics of your setup

    Thanks for the replies.

I will definitely get someone to drill the holes for the overflow.
Yes the built in sump is the same setup as the TL550. Around 70(L) x 20(W) x 70(H)

    The Current setup is:
    2.1M x 60(W) x 70(H)
    1 x 1.5m T5 Odyssey Quad
    1 x 1.2m T5 unkwon Quad
    1 x 3000l/ph return pump (from built-in Sump)
2 x 2000l/ph External Canister filters with UV lights (thought it was 2500l/ph).
    2 x 300W Heaters
    1 x 1000l/ph power head.

I have some ideas of what I need to buy to Convert the above into a Reef tank. But more ideas and help is always welcome. 20150502_150002.jpg 20150502_150002.jpg 20150502_181529.jpg 20160107_171459.jpg 20160107_171432.jpg
In the pics you should be able to see the black box(sump) behind the buddha

Yeah, I'd definitely get someone to come and drill it for you.

What do you want to accomplish with this tank? Fish only or full reef with corals?

I have time and patients. So full Reef.
Step one will be to sell the current occupants of the tank.
Step 2, get the built-in sump removed and he new Overflow holes drilled
