Does anyone know if there is someone in the country that has a permit and permission to sell locally caught fish?

i know its illegal to sell with the permits you get from the pst office, but do you know if MCM does allow commercial permits?
was wondering cause i was at the lfs last week after they got in a new shipment. The fish had a very South African look to them, and the owner told me it they were from a new supplier but wouldnt tell me where the fish came from.

You are allowed to "give lifestock away", as there is a "loophole". You are NOT allowed to trade at all. If you give someone lifestock that you caught, and they give you something they caught or bought - and don't use the term "trading or swopping", then it seems to be legal, as there's no coverage in the law regarding this.
You are just supposed to keep track of everything caught (written records). Even if it died.

in most countries keeping local animals is prohibited unless with a permit etc, i am looking for the grounds on this, but one my keep exotic animals as there is no impact on local numbers.

waiting for a reply from marine board

Andreas / Ruan - the only reason that I know of, is because the MCM law on the collection of life marine animals/lifestock in South African waters, states that you are explicitly NOT allowed to TRADE in the collected life stock.

thats what i wanted to know. Somehow doubt all shops adhere to the rules though.

How many fish did they want to sell you?

Mostly corals(brightly colored zoa's tube worms ect ect) but i heard that some shops at the coast get stock(goldies and so on) from local guys but i dont want to be a detective.

i saw the prices and the selling price is exactly the same as import price's....and no one will sell without making a penny.

I dont have a problem buying locally caught stuff IF it was properly governed and monitored.
Its disgusting that shops will buy from locals!!!

IT is 100% illegal to trade, barter etc livestock.

If this was allowed then every oke and his dog would be down catching fish to sell, could you imagine how this would effect our coast?
